MEET THE BOARD
Clayton “Clay” Hughes, MA
Clay joined the team to fulfill his personal goal to inspire staff and couples to achieve their greatest potential through educational programming that is effective, relevant, and innovative. He is fueled by his passion for the theory behind couples counseling and his love of education, resulting in the highest possible degree of cohesion between education and service delivery for providers and staff. As a general practice when considering a program for Couples Resource Collective, he attends programs as a participant so he may understand firsthand the challenges of participating in classes as well as determining the administrative needs before submitting his review and recommendation to the Board. He graduated with a Master of Art in Couples and Family Therapy from Alliant International University, Sacramento in August 2016.
William “Billy” Schult, MA
Billy found his passion working with couples and individuals who are motivated to create space for growth and understanding. He feels that positive outcomes from individual and couples counseling will always include two very simple things: The creation of an environment where safety is ensured, and genuine commitment to the process. Through his experience he has come to believe that beneath the biggest problems we have are more approachable ones that off
Being involved in the field and in the community has always been important to Billy and to-that-end he worked with David Clark to co-found the Couples Resource Collective. He has also served as Treasurer for the Sacramento District of AAMFT-CA in 2015 and is currently Treasurer for SVC-CAMFT. His training includes being a certified instructor for Mastering The Mysteries of Love, certification for Prepare-Enrich, and level II training and externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Billy earned a master’s degree in Marital and Family Therapy from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in Sacramento and a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology at California State University, Sacramento as well as two associate degrees in Anthropology and Social Sciences at American River College, Sacramento. Billy lives in Sacramento with his wife who is a Deaf and Hard of Hearing specialist as well as an ASL instructor. He is currently a Special Education School Counselor for Amador County Office of Education and pursues his love of music as vocalist of a local cover-band.
David Clark, MA
David believes each couples’ happiness and success is based upon a foundation of friendship that demonstrates key communication, problem solving, and relationship maintenance skills. He also believes such skills through couples counseling and educational experiences enables couples to navigate life’s challenges. Thus, he decided to approach Billy Schult with the idea of developing a center wherein couples could find support by professionals and community volunteers who received superior and ongoing training.
While he enjoys overseeing the operations of Couples Resource Collective, his passion for teaching, coaching, and tutoring come alive when he works with couples. He believes every couples deserves relationship satisfaction and an enriched life, now and into the future.
His study of interpersonal relationships in the family and workplace as well as his versed professional and personal background enable him to connect with a wide and diverse audience. He was an instructor for Relationship Skills Center from 2012 to 2015, where he became certified to teach Mastering the Mysteries of Love, and also taught Together We Can and Love Notes. He has also taught classes as a guest lecturer at California State University, Sacramento and Yuba College. He earned a Master of Art in Marital and Family Therapy at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, Sacramento in 2011 and and earned a bachelor of arts in American Culture in the American Workplace at University of California, Berkeley in 2003. He is a veteran of the US Navy, has traveled 5 of 7 continents, is the guide for his blind dog, and the servant of two cats.
